I love reading Ashley’s blog over at The Vanilla Tulip because she always has different tips and ideas of how to be thrifty. A little while ago she started posting about meal planning and made me decide to start meal planning.
I’ve never been a meal planner. I usually have an idea in my mind of meals to make but sort of just wing it every night. It’s always worked for me but I’m always making extra trips to the store because I’m missing ingredients.
I decided to plan our meals two weeks at a time and be prepared enough that I won’t have to shop in between the two weeks. I’ve always shopped with a grocery list but, as I said before, I never wrote out what meals I was going to cook when.
So, here’s what I have planned for the next 2 weeks…
May 18 – June 1, 2012
Friday 18th – BLT Sandwiches and garden salad
Saturday 19th – BBQ’d Sausages and garden salad
Sunday 20th – Out for Lunch!
Monday 21st – Grilled turkey and cheese sandwiches and carrot sticks
Tuesday 22nd – Slow cooked chicken drumsticks in a cream of chicken soup mixture with pepper and onions, green beans, corn, garden salad
Wednesday 23rd – Meat balls in a home made sauce, rice, veggies
Thursday 24th – Chicken Enchilada Casserole (I’ll post this recipe when I make it)
Friday 25th – BBQ’d Hamburgers, carrot sticks
Saturday 26th – Out for a fundraiser BBQ
Sunday 27th – Left over Chicken Enchilada Casserole
Monday 28th – It’s my birthday so I’m not cooking! 🙂
Tuesday 29th – Spaghetti with ground turkey, garlic bread
Wednesday 30th – Slow cooked pork chops in a home made red sauce, mashed potatoes, garden salad
Thursday 31st – Vegetable Chicken Alfredo
Friday June 1st – BBQ’d chicken (or steak) with grilled onions, corn, green beans
Well that’s the plan!
Although I already know I need to go to the grocery store because the huge pack of pork chops I bought turned green before I put them in the freezer. Our fridge is currently broken (picking up a used one off kijiji tomorrow!) and the fridge portion doesn’t work at all so we keep all of our food in the freezer. But the freezer isn’t even cold enough to keep milk/cream from going bad. We currently keep almost everything in our second fridge in the garage (it’s a pain in the butt!). So, with knowing all of that, I’m an idiot for putting my pork chops in the fridge. It’s my own fault they went bad!
I’ll post my recipe for my Chicken Enchilada casserole later on in the week after I make it.
